📝 Technical task for the book designer
1. Publication formats
Paperback: 8.5×11
Hardcover: 8.25×11
Margins: 1 cm on all sides.
Consider bleed: minimum 0.125" (3 mm), if photos or backgrounds extend to the trim.
Files must be prepared in PDF format "ready for print" for Amazon KDP.
2. Style and design
I provide an example of style (modern cookbook with photos, decorative headings, colored blocks).
However, this style is not mandatory — please provide examples of other possible options for discussion.
Main requirements:
Large and expressive headings (uppercase)
Highlighted blocks (“Tip” or “Note”) in colored rectangles.
Automatic table of contents (updates with changes in the text).
3. Photos and graphics
I provide photos in their original form.
The designer determines which photos are suitable and which need to be replaced.
If the photos are not suitable — notify me, I will provide others.
Additional stock photos can be used (upon agreement).
4. Covers
Separate covers for Paperback and Hardcover.
For Hardcover, consider a wider spine.
5. Software
Layout in professional software: Adobe InDesign or Affinity Publisher or other professional programs
Word or Canva are not suitable for the final file.
The source file (Word) is provided for the main text, photos.
6. Work experience
Mandatory: experience working with Amazon KDP.
Knowledge of KDP requirements for formats, margins, bleed, and covers.
7. Page numbering and table of contents
Clear numbering without gaps and duplicates.
In the table of contents, all pages must correspond to the actual ones.
Especially check examples like “p. 91” — so that the table of contents and actual page match.
Uniform numbering style on all pages, images all clearly aligned professionally.
8. Text checking
Check the titles of sections, recipes, subtitles.
Proofread texts during layout to avoid typographical errors. In case of inaccuracies found — coordinate with me.
9. Quality and professionalism. The book should not have empty spaces or "gaps" in the layout.
All pages should look uniform, professional, and tidy.
The layout should ensure a cohesive look for the book, without chaotic margins. A screenshot of the format of the book, a second screenshot PASTA - an example of how the book will be presented now, is available. The actual file will be provided individually.
10. Terms and cost
Estimated time: 3 days for full layout.
Cost: 5000 UAH.
The work is done "turnkey" — with complete preparation for the final PDF for printing on Amazon KDP, including all necessary corrections.
