- Goal: Translate a musical piece into the language of abstract animation. An exercise in rhythm, pulse, and visualizing sound in its purest form.
- Description: Choose a short (1-2 minutes) musical piece, preferably instrumental (without vocals that could set the tone of the narrative). Your task is not to illustrate the mood of the song, but to create a visual representation of its structure. Analyze the rhythm, melody, harmony, dynamics (volume), and timbre of the instruments. Each sound, musical phrase, or instrument can become a shape, color, or movement. Recall the works of Oskar Fischinger or Norman McLaren.
- Tips:
- Break the song down into simple components.
Drums can represent pulsating geometry, the piano part can be a series of smooth lines, and the introduction of strings can be a spreading splash of color. - Focus on perfect synchronization.
The image should dance to the music. - Technical requirements:
- Format: any (can be square 1080x1080 pixels, can be vertical 1080x1920 pixels)
- Duration: corresponds to the length of the chosen musical piece. Minimum 60 seconds for an individual project, 60 seconds x (number of people in the team) for a team project.
- Technique: 2D or 3D abstract animation.
