I work as a caregiver for elderly people. During my work, I came up with the idea to create a hybrid of a shower trolley and a shower chair. The trolleys we use are quite large in size, making it very difficult to use them in a ward, and in most cases, it is impossible. In these cases, two types of shower chairs are used: a regular one and one with a tilt function. To move from the bed to the chair, a lift with a special sheet is used. The process of moving is lengthy, associated with a risk of falls, and unpleasant due to the design features of the lifting sheet.
If a bed-chair for showering is used, the transfer will be reduced to "dragging" the person from a regular bed onto the bed-chair using a hygiene sheet (just like when using a regular trolley). Then, thanks to the transforming function of the bed into a chair, it will be possible to take the person to the bathroom and, if necessary, fold the chair back. The back and leg sections should have adjustable tilt, and the pelvis section should have a mechanical adjustment to fix the pelvis in a sitting position. The head section should also be height-adjustable (for example, using a telescopic adjustment system). Also, safety features such as fold-down handrails and a lifting footrest are needed. The height of the device should be adjustable via a mechanical lifting system (for example, a screw system like a car jack), and wheels with locking mechanisms are required.
