Migration of the website to CMS Joomla on the server cba.pl
A few years ago, I created my own informational website about myself and promoting the amateur radio hobby. The site is relatively simple and concisely informs what amateur radio operators do. There is a photo gallery on the site containing pictures from amateur radio conventions and meetings, as well as some personal photos and QSL cards.
The site was built on CMS Joomla 1.5.2.6 and has not been migrated, so there is no possibility of adding new photos and some modules do not work. I tried to install a new Joomla 6 on XAMPP and then transfer it to the server, but it was a bit overwhelming for me due to my age and eyesight.
Therefore, I am looking for someone who could install a new Joomla with a new photo gallery on the server for a reasonable price and place empty pages there in a layout similar to the old site, where I could manually rewrite the same articles and insert graphics and other GIFs. The site currently works well and does not freeze. Would the old site be available during the work?
Is this feasible and what would the cost be? I would like to mention that the site does not generate any profits; it serves amateur radio operators as a source of information about amateur radio as a wonderful hobby.
Best regards, Stanislaw B

28 7 days271 USDDear Mr. Stanisław,
Thank you for the detailed description of the current website and your expectations regarding its recreation in a newer version of Joomla. The scope of work you described is fully feasible and does not pose a technical problem.
The proposed solution would involve:
- Installing the current version of Joomla on the server in a separate directory or subdomain, or on my server (for your review during the migration).
- Preparing a new website template with a layout as close as possible to the current version,
…
- Configuring a new photo gallery,
- Creating empty subpages and a menu, where you will be able to independently rewrite content, photos, and graphics,
- Ensuring continuous availability of the current website during the work.
The old website will remain fully operational until the new version is completed and accepted. The switch to the new website can only occur after your decision.
Automatic content migration
Unfortunately, in the case of Joomla 1.5, automatic migration to current versions of the system is not currently recommended. Due to the significant version difference, old modules, templates, and components (including galleries) are not compatible with the new Joomla architecture. Attempts at automatic migration often end with errors, security issues, or website instability.
For this reason, the safest and most durable solution is:
- Manually recreating the website structure,
- Manually transferring content (as you plan to do yourself).
I would also recommend switching to WordPress, as it is much more user-friendly.
Cost and execution time
Execution time:
5–7 working days from the moment access to the server is obtained and basic details are established (e.g., menu names, subpage structure). I can start the execution right away.
If you are interested, I can also provide brief support after implementation (e.g., assistance with the first content or gallery addition).
If you have any questions, I remain at your disposal. I am also from Poland, so we will be able to communicate easily :)
Sincerely,
Mariusz Kupczyk

For your website, two stages of migration need to be done. First, transition from Joomla 1.5 to Joomla 2. They have different structures for categories and articles. Next, upgrade to Joomla 3, and then proceed with the migration to Joomla 4. At the same time, it should be understood that we will preserve the content. However, the website will need to be built completely from scratch.
I have done such work before, and I can do it for you as well.
Feel free to reach out.

307 3 days81 USDHello.
Your project concerns the careful modernization of the existing Joomla website without disrupting the operation of the stable resource for the amateur radio community. I would install and configure the latest version of Joomla on the server alongside the current website, create a simple and accessible photo gallery, and also replicate the structure and layout of the page so that you can comfortably re-enter your content at your own pace while the old site remains online. The work is absolutely feasible, it can be done safely and step by step, and the cost will be reasonable considering the non-commercial nature of the project.

997 9 0 2 days60 USDHello Stanislaw. Many improvements have been made in the new Joomla 6. Because of this, some plugins and modules from older versions do not work. Judging by your detailed description, there are several options for a solution. I have very good experience with Joomla. I recently updated my old website. Therefore, your topic is familiar, and I can do this for you.
But we need to dig inside. Look at the details. Either just update the existing site or transfer everything to a new one and upload it in place of the old one. Reach out. We will discuss.
