FinMan seems like the kind of product where small details determine whether people trust it, so I would first create it as a serious financial tool and then make it easy and convenient for daily use.
On the frontend, I can set up Next.js with FSD from day one, maintain state cleanliness using Zustand, and make every form fast and secure with React Hook Form and Zod, so bad data never enters the stream. For offline mode, I would treat it as a true first-class feature with local encrypted storage, a synchronization queue, and conflict rules that remain predictable, so families can log expenses on their phones without a signal and still be confident that nothing will be lost.
For the backend, DDD is a good fit since budgets, recurring items, priorities, and reminders behave like true domains. PostgreSQL and Docker Compose provide a reliable foundation, and I am comfortable developing a secure authentication system with support for local passwords, proper 2FA online, and clear role management for administrators without making the UX annoying. I also pay close attention to accessibility, including smooth keyboard navigation, focus states, screen reader labels, and color contrast in both light and dark themes.
One idea that would make FinMan smarter but not intimidating is a user-friendly monthly history overview that turns raw numbers into a simple narrative, such as what has changed since last month, which categories have quietly grown, and which small habit will have the biggest impact, with a one-touch option to update the next budget plan.
