Задача сильно зависит от количества товаров и категорий.
Если товаров не более 2х – 3х тысяч (или около того) — вполне годится стандартный модуль (есть проверенный и хорошо работающий модуль). Это будет и недолго и не дорого, при условии, что структуру базы не меняли.
Если товаров где-то от пяти тысяч и более — стандартные модули просто не справятся — тогда надо делать индивидуальные варианты синхронизации.
Здесь тоже есть варианты. Например, если оба сайта на одном сервере — это можно сделать непосредственно через БД.
