7 USD LEADER OF THE REDSKINS RETURNS

Having written a commissioned fanfic on "The Ransom of Red Chief" by O. Henry. I wrote with great respect for the author, whom I discovered in my teenage years. My story is more of a continuation of "Red Chief" rather than a typical fanfic. Check out the beginning of the story (300 words):
"Oh, if only everything turned out as simple and easy as we thought!
So, we ran away from old Dorset, causing quite a commotion behind us.
… We ran alongside Bill for a long time. And when we decided to take a break, we fell asleep without even realizing it, not far from the road, exhausted from all the running and adventures. I couldn't sleep, my dreams were restless, so I woke up before sunrise.
A gift was waiting for me. In the dawn mist, our old friend stared at us from a distance. Red Chief. He stood a few yards away, glaring at us.
"Awake, you scoundrels?... You betrayed and deceived me! I won't forgive you for this!"
"What? How?..." Bill exclaimed, jumping up from his spot. His eyes widened in fear, thinking it was a dream. But when he realized it wasn't, he clutched his chest and froze, staring hatefully at the boy. It was hard to look at Bill. I probably didn't look any better.
I sighed heavily. This wasn't a dream. It was all happening for real.
"My father managed to hold me for ten minutes, but he didn't have the strength for more," the boy boasted. "His strength is fading, while I grow older and stronger every day."
"What do you want?" I groaned. Seeing this cheeky, insolent brat once again, I regretted a thousand times that Bill and I had come up with the idea to sneak into that treacherous town and steal a child from there. We chose the wrong house, the wrong house!
"You owe me a rifle," the boy stated calmly. "And a pair of moccasins. And a bear hunt."
"I'll give you a hunt!" Bill snapped. "I'll give you a rifle and moccasins!"
He jumped to his feet, but clearly still groggy from sleep, stumbled quite badly. Bill hadn't run a couple of yards before tripping and face-planting into the ground. After cursing, he tried to get up, while I attempted to catch the boy. However, the former Red Chief was no slouch either. He ran to a safe distance and threatened us from there..."
The story is almost 1,500 words long. Working on it brought me immense aesthetic and creative satisfaction. And a little bit of money:)

Alternative version of "Spider's Thread," a short story by the writer Akutagawa Ryunosuke, a classic of Japanese literature. The title transparently hints that my version of the story has a different ending than the original. Also created on request, like the return of the leader of the Red Skins.

A small excerpt, traditionally the first third of the story (or the novel):
… "Buddha loved solitude, but even more he loved to be alone on the shore of the Lotus Lake. Paradise began in the morning, lotus flowers bloomed after a night's sleep. Everything most beautiful that could happen in the world this morning was concentrated in the scents of hundreds of snow-white flowers.
Buddha bypassed the lake, enjoying the morning freshness. But is everywhere as good, as beautiful and bright as in paradise? Buddha looked down, through the thickness of the water, and felt an involuntary touch of sadness. Far below, hell was visible, and many sinners suffered there. Looking closer, Buddha recognized one of them. That man was called Kantata, he was a great scoundrel, although he had once done good. However, a small, insignificant good deed. During a walk in the forest, he saw a spider that blocked the path with its silvery web. Kantata was about to crush it, but changed his mind. In order not to shorten the life of the innocent creature, he bypassed that place on the path and went his own way.
Buddha remembered this story and decided that he must give him a chance to get out of hell, as he gave the spider a chance to fully live its short life. Buddha looked around, and almost immediately saw a heavenly spider weaving a web among the malachite leaves of the lotus. So, it's decided - the thin web stretched far down, straight to Kantata."

Beginning of the story:
"The giants rarely bothered the villagers.
Sometimes they would come to the cave and ask to throw stones, with which the rockfall had almost blocked the only passage in the mountains: heavy rains eroded the mountain rock, stone depths collapsed from steep peaks and blocked the narrow, cliff-enclosed road in various places. And someone bolder would ask to carry them to the cliff above the lake and throw them into the water, so that the lake would not dry up in the hot season. The giant just waved his hand at the villagers' requests, not even turning towards them. The giant did not speak in human languages, only growled like a beast, but the villagers understood. With a short, calm growl, he indicated that he would fulfill the request, and when he was not in the mood, he could roar angrily, which meant: better go away. Come back later with your requests, not now.
… And the next day at dawn, you could already hear him creaking, dragging the stones one by one to the cliff, and feel the earth trembling under his bare feet.
The giant would carry them to the cliff, finish in half a day, and then throw the stone blocks into the lake, laughing. Sometimes he would do this himself, even without the villagers' requests. For some unknown reason, the giant loved throwing stones into the water. Sometimes he got too carried away, he could throw them towards boats, splashing the fishermen in the boat. And when he splashed them, the giant laughed, and his mighty laughter resembled the roar of a prehistoric creature.
— Let him have fun as he pleases, — the fishermen would say. — The main thing is that he doesn't bother the children. And the cattle. And the village."
