Automatic calculation of results in the sensory laboratory

The sensory laboratory is a specially equipped place where tastings of products, beverages, or other objects are conducted. The main goal of such laboratories is to collect evaluations and reactions from people regarding certain characteristics of the product, such as taste, aroma, texture, etc. Experts in the laboratory undergo tasting and provide their evaluations based on various parameters, using special methods, such as:

• A not A: Experts are offered two samples, one of which is a control, and they need to determine whether the second sample is the same or different. 

• Paired comparison: Two samples are compared directly based on a single indicator, for example, taste intensity. 

• Flavor: Experts evaluate the components of aroma or taste. 

• Ranking: Experts are presented with several samples that need to be arranged in order of decreasing/increasing intensity of a certain characteristic. 

• Scoring method: Samples are evaluated on a scale (for example, from 1 to 10) based on various criteria.

How the process works: 

Each expert works in a separate booth, where there are no distractions, allowing them to focus solely on tasting. To facilitate the work, we want to install tablets in each booth so that experts can directly enter their responses into the system.

What the system (web application or program) should do: 

1. Administration of tastings: As an administrator, I will be able to create new tasting sessions, choose evaluation methods, and add questions or evaluation criteria for each tasting. For example, I can create a session using the “A not A” method and add the corresponding task for the experts. 

2. Data entry by experts: Experts will log into the system via tablets in the booths, where they will be able to fill out forms for each method. For example, in the “Paired comparison” method, they will be shown two samples, and they will need to choose which one is better based on a specific criterion. 

3. Automatic calculation of results: After the experts submit their evaluations, the system automatically processes all entered data and calculates the results for each evaluation method. For example, if it is ranking, the system will determine which samples were rated higher than others. 

4. Displaying results: I can see the results of the session in real-time on my laptop. This allows for immediate data analysis without the need for manual entry or calculation.

Final goal: 

The result should be a system that allows automating all evaluation processes: from data entry by experts on tablets in booths to automatic calculation and display of results on my laptop.

Сенсорна лабораторія — це спеціально обладнане місце, де проводяться дегустації продуктів, напоїв чи інших об’єктів. Основна мета таких лабораторій — це збір оцінок і реакцій людей на певні характеристики продукту, такі як смак, аромат, текстура тощо. Експерти в лабораторії проходять дегустацію і дають свої оцінки за різними параметрами, використовуючи спеціальні методи, як-от:”

• А не А: Експертам пропонують два зразки, один з яких є контрольним, і їм потрібно визначити, чи є другий зразок таким самим, чи іншим.

Як відбувається процес: 

Кожен експерт працює в окремій кабінці, де немає відволікаючих факторів, щоб зосередитися тільки на дегустації. Для полегшення роботи, ми хочемо встановити планшети в кожній кабінці, щоб експерти могли безпосередньо вносити свої відповіді в систему.

Що повинна робити система (веб застосунок або програма): 

1. Адміністрування дегустації: Я, як адміністратор, зможу створювати нові дегустаційні сесії, обирати методи оцінки та додавати запитання або критерії оцінки для кожної дегустації. Наприклад, я можу створити сесію з методом “А не А” і додати відповідне завдання для експертів. 

2. Введення даних експертами: Експерти будуть заходити в систему через планшети в кабінках, де вони зможуть заповнювати форми для кожного методу. Наприклад, у методі “Парне порівняння” їм буде показано два зразки, і вони повинні будуть вибрати, який із них кращий за конкретним критерієм. 

3. Автоматичний підрахунок результатів: Після того, як експерти внесуть свої оцінки, система автоматично обробляє всі введені дані і підраховує результати для кожного методу оцінки. Наприклад, якщо це ранжування, система визначить, які зразки були оцінені вище за інші. 

4. Виведення результатів: Я можу бачити результати сесії в реальному часі на своєму ноутбуці. Це дозволяє відразу аналізувати дані без необхідності ручного введення чи підрахунку.

Остаточна мета: 

Результатом має бути система, яка дозволяє автоматизувати всі процеси оцінки: від введення експертами даних на планшетах у кабінках до автоматичного підрахунку та відображення результатів на моєму ноутбуці.
