Implementation options
1) Through official Shopify modules (recommended as a base)
Google & YouTube App: connection to Merchant Center, product feed, basic conversions.
Shopify Customer Events (Pixels): connecting Google tag (GA4) and Google Ads through pixels at the storefront+checkout level (stable transmission of value, currency, items).
Pros: works reliably with the new checkout, minimal customization, less risk from theme updates.
Cons: less flexibility for non-standard parameters.
2) Through GTM
I install GTM (via theme / app / customer events), configure GA4 (recommended events: view_item, add_to_cart, begin_checkout, purchase), Google Ads remarketing (ecomm_prodid/item_id, value, currency).
Pros: maximum flexibility, additional triggers, extended audience parameters.
Cons: need to correctly maintain dataLayer, consider limitations on checkout (for non-Plus — we cover through pixels).
3) Hybrid (best in most cases)
Google & YouTube + Merchant Center (feed and policies).
GA4 / Ads through Customer Events (pixels) for stable conversion transmission at checkout.
GTM for extended events/audiences (scroll, engagement, additional parameters).
