It is preferable that the performer is familiar with the concept of dramaturgy. There should be an introduction where the artist appears, moments of silence, a climax, and an ending with a point. It is desirable to maintain maximum similarity to the original, or at least the vibe and mood of the music. I don't know what the correct term is among musicians, but in our circles, we say "rewrite the music." Perhaps someone has done this before, I would be interested to hear examples.
