Для прототипирования (да и для конечного устройства) рекомендую использовать esp8266 с обвязкой, напр., NodeMcu V3 или WeMos D1 R2 или аналоги.
Если планируете общаться и по Bluetooth, то можно смотреть в сторону плат на основе esp32.
Вообще постановка задачи слишком краткая, чтоб можно было оценить трудоёмкость.
У вас система "Умный дом" уже работает и нужно добавить в неё управление воротами? Если да, то укажите, какая система (стандартная или самодельная).
Типовые сценарии тоже стоит указать. На что система управления воротами должна реагировать? Достаточно дистанционного управления или нужно что-то более сложное (слежение за GPS-координатами авто и т.п.)?
В простейшем случае это можно сделать в такой конфигурации: NodeMCU V3 + 2 реле (в зависимости от привода ворот) + управление через WiFi (Blynk или MQTT).
