but traffic is flowing towards "ads" (Asset Group: banners/videos/search),
and product impressions (Shopping placements) either do not get coverage or receive little.
This is because Performance Max automatically reallocates the budget in favor of what generates clicks faster, not always — useful conversions. Below are specific steps to improve the situation:

🔍 What needs to be checked and done:
1. Separate product and creative groups (Asset Groups)
If you have both products, banners, and videos in one ad group — P-Max will promote what gets more attention more often — banners.
✅ Solution: Create separate Asset Groups only with products (without media and headlines) — this will push P-Max towards prioritizing Shopping inventory.
2. Use custom channels (Feed Label)
Add an additional attribute custom_label_0 (for example, "pmax_test") to products in Merchant Center and set up the P-Max campaign for this segment. This will limit the display to only the needed products.
3. Add "Final URL Expansion: OFF"
In the product-oriented group, disable automatic URL expansion (Final URL Expansion) so traffic does not go to unnecessary pages, only to product detail pages.
4. Track Shopping impressions in reports
In Google Ads interface, go to:
Reports > Predefined > Campaign > Performance Max placements
or create a report by “Asset Group type” — to understand where the budget is going (Shopping vs Display vs YouTube vs Search).
5. Signal audiences — minimal or disabled
Sometimes too narrow or too "broad" audiences hinder the algorithm. Check Signal Audiences settings — you can temporarily disable them to allow the algorithm to re-train.

Check retargeting: if audiences of website visitors are added, P-Max may mainly run on them.
Consider creating a separate P-Max campaign for product categories or key positions to manage priorities.
