Creation of software for generating cutting files for wooden puzzles
We are looking for a developer to create software that automates the process of building cutting files for wooden jigsaw puzzles.
Current Process
Currently, each file is created manually by a designer in Adobe Illustrator.
The file contains:
- the outer contour of the puzzle in any shape;
- a set of thematic shaped pieces;
- regular puzzles in any shape;
- numbering of pieces;
- a ready AI file for laser cutting.
Our goal is to automate this process and achieve a result as close as possible to manual work.
Main Requirements
The program must:
- work with any outer contour of the puzzle;
- automatically place thematic figures from a specified library;
- ensure even distribution of figures without overlaps;
- automatically generate all other puzzle pieces;
- support a specified number of pieces (e.g., 300, 500, 700, etc.);
- use standardized connectors between pieces;
- create a single continuous cutting grid without breaks and overlaps;
- automatically number all pieces;
- export the finished file in AI format.
Additionally
In the next stage, the following will be provided:
- examples of finished files;
- libraries of thematic figures;
- technical parameters for cutting;
- rules for building geometry;
- requirements for distances, line thicknesses, and other technological parameters.
If you have experience in implementing similar tasks or are confident that you can carry out such a project, please send your proposals.
Details of the project, examples of files, and the complete technical assignment will be discussed in personal correspondence.
Applications 3

Evaluation - starting from 180,000 UAH and 45 working days for the first working prototype of the generator. The total cost depends on the geometry rules, the number of types of connectors, AI export requirements, and how closely the result must replicate the designer's manual work.
We would implement this as a separate program with a geometry core - importing external shapes, a library of thematic figures, placement without overlaps, generating the remaining details, checking the integrity of cutting lines, numbering, and exporting for Adobe Illustrator. Note, the nuance here is that the riskiest part is not the interface, but the stable construction of a single grid without micro-gaps and overlaps =)
We need materials from you for an accurate estimate
> 3-5 ready AI files of varying complexity
> a library of thematic figures
> rules for distances, line thicknesses, minimum bridges, and technological limitations of the laser
> an example of the expected quality for 300, 500, 700 parts
…
Clarifications
> The AI file must be a native Adobe Illustrator file, or is SVG or PDF acceptable if it opens correctly in Illustrator?
> The thematic figures must necessarily be parts of a puzzle, or can they be decorative inserts within the grid?

!!I would recommend starting with a short design phase and a technical prototype!! - to test the generation on 1-2 real layouts, and only after that scale up to a full editor. In such tasks, measure seven times - cut once, this saying works too literally here.

1009 2 0 Hello! I understand the task: creating software for the automatic generation of cutting files for wooden puzzles instead of manual work in Adobe Illustrator. I see the approach as follows: I will implement an algorithm that takes any external contour, automatically places thematic shapes from the library without overlaps, generates a grid with standardized connectors for a specified number of pieces, numbers them, and exports the finished AI file. I have experience in developing geometry generation algorithms and working with vector formats. Could you provide examples of finished files and technical parameters to clarify the logic of placing the shapes?

278 Good day! I have worked on Python generative scripts that build vector geometry for laser cutting and export it to vector format—tasks involving the layout of shapes without overlaps and a continuous cutting contour are familiar to me. The most challenging part is evenly distributing thematic shapes within an arbitrary contour and stitching everything into a single mesh without gaps—this is solved through triangulation with point relaxation plus standardized connectors along shared edges. Could you please clarify if the shape library will consist of ready-made vectors (SVG/AI) or if they also need to be traced? And is the file required to be in native Illustrator format, or would a PDF/SVG that Illustrator opens perfectly fine be acceptable? Approximately 25 days.

I have experience in developing such puzzles at Enjoy the Wood
By the way, the process can be optimized even more if you use Corel Draw
I am ready to collaborate)

196 we already have almost ready logic for similar tasks of generative geometry and automation of production file preparation, it can be quickly adapted for wooden puzzles and brought to a working prototype ))
the benchmark for the first stage is 21 days and 45000 UAH
this stage involves designing the algorithm, testing grid generation, checking overlaps, numbering, and exporting in a format compatible with your cutting process
We can keep the start simple - first, we take 3-5 ready examples, a library of shapes, and rules regarding distances, line thicknesses, and connections, after which we create a prototype using real data.
Then we will scale up to 300, 500, 700 parts and add a user-friendly interface for the team.
We have relevant experience in complex automation systems and products with atypical business logic.
… https://business.ingello.com/platforma - an example of a corporate platform with process logic and data management
https://business.ingello.com/forma-bpm - automation of complex workflows, closely aligned with your production scenario
https://business.ingello.com/vorfahr - an example of a more algorithmic product approach, where not just the form matters, but the rules of the system's operation.
our profile for the exchange - https://systems-fl.ingello.com/ua
I would like to clarify 2 points to make the assessment more accurate:
- is AI as the final format absolutely necessary, or would SVG or PDF with further opening in Adobe Illustrator be acceptable?
- do the thematic shapes already have ready vector files with technical layers for cutting, or do they also need to be prepared?
Overall, the task is realistic, but the main thing here is not to just draw a file, but to build reliable generation rules; otherwise, the laser will find all our philosophical mistakes faster than the tester =/

412 10 0 Good day, I was just making something like this for myself, drawing and cutting out a boat, here is an example of a simple demo layout.
Feel free to reach out, I will show you how to use this software, install it, and connect the SHI.
If anything is missing, we will work on it together.

1510 10 0 We have experience in automating the generation of vector outlines and algorithmic pattern generation. We implement this through Python using libraries for working with geometry, which will allow us to replace manual labor in Illustrator with an automated script. This will ensure accuracy and speed up the process of preparing files for laser cutting.
