I present to you the results of the master's research on the topic “The Impact of a Short-Term Meditation Program Using Neurofeedback on the Mental Health of the Population in Conditions of Distress”.
The research was conducted at the Department of General and Clinical Psychology of Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University under the supervision of Professor Olha Valeriivna Lazorko.
Slide 2. Relevance of the Topic

The relevance of the topic is due to the fact that the level of distress among the Ukrainian population has significantly increased due to military events, information pressure, and uncertainty.
According to UNICEF (2025), 77% of adult Ukrainians experience regular stress, and 52% experience increased anxiety.
Therefore, there is a growing need for short, scientifically grounded interventions to restore mental stability.
Meditation with neurofeedback is a modern approach that allows combining attention training with the control of physiological indicators.
Slide 3. Object, Subject, Aim, Hypothesis

The object of the research is the mental health of the population in conditions of distress.
The subject is the psychological and neurophysiological effects of short-term meditation practice with neurofeedback.
The aim is to determine the impact of the program on mental health indicators.
Hypothesis: a five-day meditation program with neurofeedback reduces levels of stress and anxiety and normalizes physiological indicators, including the activity of the brain's alpha rhythm.

2️⃣ Study the features of meditation and neurofeedback as methods of self-regulation.
3️⃣ Develop a 5-day meditation program using the Muse 2 headset.
4️⃣ Assess changes in psychological indicators (DASS-21, MAAS, PSS-10, BBC-SWB) and physiological parameters (EEG, heart rate variability) before and after the intervention.

Methodologically, the work is based on the biopsychosocial model of health and the concept of neuroplasticity.
Applied:

psychodiagnostic methods DASS-21, MAAS, PSS-10, BBC-SWB;
physiological measurements — EEG (alpha, beta, theta) and heart rate variability (HRV);
statistical methods: descriptive statistics, t-test, correlation analysis.
The study involved 50 individuals aged 18–60 years.
Slide 6. Organization of the Research
Text:
The program lasted 5 days, with 40 minutes of meditation per day using the Muse 2 neuroheadset.
Before and after the program, indicators of mental state and physiological activity were recorded.
Inclusion criteria: increased subjective level of stress.
About 84% of the sample are women, which is typical for psychological studies.
All participants provided informed consent, and the study was approved by the ethics committee of the department.

After completing the program:

The level of stress decreased on average by 32% (p < 0.01);
Anxiety decreased by 28% (p < 0.05);
Depression decreased by 24% (p < 0.05) according to the DASS-21 scale;
Mindfulness (MAAS) increased by 18%,
Subjective well-being (BBC-SWB) increased by 22%.

Physiological indicators also demonstrated significant changes:

The power of the alpha rhythm in EEG increased by 15% (p < 0.05);
Beta activity decreased by 11%, indicating reduced tension;
Heart rate decreased by 7 beats/min;
Heart rate variability (RMSSD) increased on average by 19%.
Correlation analysis revealed a connection between the increase in alpha activity and the increase in mindfulness (r = 0.42, p < 0.05).

✅ Short-term meditation with neurofeedback effectively reduces distress and normalizes neurophysiological indicators.
✅ The integration of cognitive, emotional, and somatic regulation mechanisms has been proven.
