I work with Subtitle Edit, translating TV series from English to Ukrainian on various topics (fantasy, biology, science fiction, psychology, history, romance, urbanism, comedy, etc.).

I localize jokes (rhymes, puns) without distorting the meaning. I consider the context of the original to avoid confusing "trousers" with "pants," the background of characters to make a fictional thug sound natural, not in the style of Shakespeare. I do not change strong words to "grandpa" unless required by the distributor. I transliterate names and proper nouns according to current spelling rules. I ensure that the line length fits within the timing and screen width. I do not use the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) because it requires too much rewriting.

I have been translating between Ukrainian and English for the past two years, and before that, I worked with English-language content in international companies (writing instructions, presentations in English) and communicated with clients from Australia and Singapore to Britain and America. My English proficiency at the native level is confirmed by my work experience in a non-governmental Irish organization.
