Again! Again this disgusting feeling, as if someone is pounding fists on my chest from inside, begging to let out. Yeah, to let out... along with my life. The rhythm is jagged. Sometimes a horse galloping from the slaughterers, sometimes this very horse has been turned into a sausage product. And it's been like this for several months. I hold my breath, as if afraid my heart will still jump out. Carefully exhaling and immediately freezing, listening to the captive - whether it will start raging again or calm down for a while.
"What's happening to me?" — a banal but relevant thought.
… Recently, I had a full medical check-up. The ECG is normal. Tests too. The doctor casually said that my heart is fine. If so, then what is the reason? Where is that root I so stubbornly can't find?
A quick glance at the clock - 05:20.
"And why can't you sleep? As if it's the last day... But I won't die, right???" — a panicked thought had already risen, but my will immediately tamed it.
"I need to wash up. And coffee," — I ordered myself. — "Yes, it might only worsen my condition, but at least it will lift my mood a little. I'll die happy," — I joked to myself and calmed down a bit - you usually don't joke before death.

Нижче відправляю текст Першої глави книги.
Глава перша - 5:20 ранку
Сьогодні я знову прокинувся о 05:20.
Відчуття, ніби серце ось-ось розірветься.
Ритм — далекий від норми: то шалено пришвидшується, то раптом завмирає.
І так уже кілька місяців.
Я затримую подих, намагаюся вловити це биття, відчути його.
Видихаю. І знову затримка.
— Що зі мною коїться? — питаю сам себе.
Нещодавно проходив повний медичний огляд.
Кардіограма — в нормі. Аналізи — теж. Лікар упевнено сказав, що з серцем усе гаразд.
Якщо так — то в чому ж причина?
Де цей корінь, який я так вперто не можу знайти?
Думки заплутані. Потрібно вмитися. І кави. Так, вона, можливо, лише погіршить мій стан, але хоч настрій трохи підніме.
5:54.
Кава готова. Виходжу на балкон. Йде дощ.
Дехто вже поспішає на роботу. Серце трохи заспокоїлось.
— Цікаво, яка зараз погода в моєму рідному місті, яке я був змушений покинути, — шепочу я сам до себе. Там зазвичай усе сіро, навіть без дощу. Хоча, мабуть, там тепліше, ніж тут.
Я згадую, як мене щоранку будив Барсик. Кіт завжди спав поруч — то біля голови, то на верхівці дивана. Вночі він тихенько сопів, і, щоб не прокинутися, я злегка штовхав його рукою. Вранці Барсик був першим на ногах — уже готовий до гри.
Одного разу я випустив його за подвійні двері, зав’язавши резинку між ручками, щоб кіт не прослизнув назад. Замість тиші я почув гучний стукіт — Барсик наполегливо намагався повернутися. Було смішно й водночас зворушливо. Я обожнював того кота. Ті дні були щасливими, хоча я тоді цього і не усвідомлював.
Майже одночасно у моєму житті з’явилися двоє нових друзів. Однією з них була Джесіка — маленьке цуценя, якого бабуся знайшла на вулиці. Вона пищала й кликала на допомогу, аж бабуся зрозуміла: перед нею справжній бійцівський пес. З купірованим хвостом і вухами, з білим хутром у темних плямах — бабуся без вагань забрала Джесіку додому.
Коли я вперше приїхав до бабусі й побачив Джесіку, це було кохання з першого погляду. Маленьке цуценя, схоже на плюшевого ведмедика, радісно виляє хвостиком від кожної гри, яку я вигадав. Коли я запитав у батьків, чи можемо взяти її додому, почув спокійне «Ні». У той момент у мені щось перевернулося: здавалося, ніби я зраджую друга, який уже зібрав валізу й чекав, коли ми вирушимо разом у нове життя.
Не міг просто залишити її там. Я загорнув Джесіку в ковдру, поклав у коробку, зробив отвори для повітря, сховав трохи їжі й води. Приховав цю коробку під сидінням — так, щоб щеня ледь визирало. На щастя, ми приїхали бусом. Бабуся мовчки підтримала мене й стала моїм союзником у цьому.
Як тільки автобус рушив, я прикрив кришку коробки, і звідти пролунало гучне кумедне чхання. Усі навколо розсміялися. Я побачив, як обличчя батьків розтанули в ніжних усмішках. З того дня Джесіка залишилася з нами назавжди.
Барсик з’явився трохи пізніше — може, за тиждень після того, як у моєму житті оселилась Джесіка. Тато тоді поїхав на ринок по корм для наших домашніх курей. На одному з прилавків стояли кілька кошиків, а в них — маленькі кошенята. Біля одного з кошиків стояла дівчинка років восьми й довго не зводила погляду з одного біленького. Вона гладила його, посміхалась і щось шепотіла мамі. Тато почув, як вона сказала: «Я би так хотіла його, але ми не можемо...»
Його щось зачепило. Він купив того котика. Просто так — не знаючи, що з ним буде далі, для кого саме він. Може, хотів зробити добру справу, а може, просто серце підказало.
Але вже за кілька хвилин до нього підійшли дівчинка з батьком. Вони чемно подякували й пояснили, що вона має алергію на шерсть. Вони хотіли повернути кота. Тато стояв з ним на руках — і не зміг. Повернути? Ні. Він вже наче щось пообіцяв цьому котику, хоча сам ще не усвідомлював, що саме.
Так Барсик опинився у нас вдома.
Мама, звичайно, була не в захваті. У неї вдома завжди мав бути порядок, а тут — собака, а тепер ще й кіт. І все це без жодного погодження. Але коли я вийшов із кімнати того ранку, ще зовсім сонний, і побачив Барсика — ми одразу знайшли спільну мову. Він притулився до моїх ніг, потягнувся, муркнув… І я зрозумів — він теж мій. Тепер нас було троє.
Джесіка, Барсик і я. Моя перша справжня команда. Вони з’явилися у моєму житті майже одночасно — і одного дня обидва зникли. Спочатку Джесіка. Хвороба, довгий період лікування, і тиша, яка залишилася після. А згодом Барсик. Просто не повернувся додому.
Я довго шукав його, розвішував оголошення, питав людей. Безрезультатно. А потім дізнався, що коти, коли відчувають свій кінець, просто йдуть. Можливо, так і сталося. Можливо, він не витримав тиші після Джесіки. Вони ж були друзями, як не дивно — пес і кіт.
І ось так — найкращі мої друзі пішли з мого життя. Без пафосу. Без прощання. І тільки зараз я розумію, як мені не вистачає того простого щастя, що вони давали: обіймів, гри, погляду. Того, що було поруч — і було справжнім.
Як же мені їх не вистачає зараз...
Раптовий гул машини повернув мене до реальності. Я знову стою на балконі з чашкою ще гарячої кави в руках.
Моє серце. Що ти хочеш мені сказати?
Можливо, я сумую за домом. Чи за рідними, яких, можливо, вже ніколи не побачу.
А може, справа в роботі, що давно втратила сенс.
Або у «друзях», які існують лише в телефонній книжці — й згадують про мене лише тоді, коли їм щось потрібно.
Може, це все разом.
Але чому я шукаю причину зовні? Може, проблема — в мені самому.
Я не можу знайти сенс. Мету. Призначення.
Так... можливо, саме в цьому й корінь.
О’кей. Треба взяти аркуш паперу й почати розбиратися в собі.
З дитинства маю цікавий спосіб мислення.
Мені обов’язково треба взяти аркуш паперу — щось малювати, креслити. Це допомагає мислити.
Пам’ятаю, ще в школі, коли працювали в групах і треба було створити якийсь проєкт чи знайти відповіді на питання — я брав аркуш і починав малювати. Креслив щось, розмовляючи вголос, ідеї сипались одна за одною. Група не встигала все занотовувати, а всі дивувались: «Навіщо тобі той аркуш, якщо нічого не зрозуміло?»
А мені було байдуже. Головне, що я розумів.
Повертаємось із минулого в теперішнє.
У мене завдання — розібратися в собі.
Окей, починаю.
Малюю коло. Ділю його на частини. Пишу перше, що спадає на думку:
Батьки, оточення, фінанси, здоров’я, хобі, робота, стосунки.
Вже щось.
Почну зі здоров’я.
Регулярно проходжу обстеження — за аналізами все наче в межах норми.
Але я ж відчуваю — щось не так. Тіло ніби мовчки подає сигнали, але я їх не розшифровую.
Спорт? Як у більшості: «почну з понеділка», який усе не настає.
Я знаю — треба.
Дідусь завжди казав: «У здоровому тілі — здоровий дух».
Я його погано пам’ятаю. Він пішов з життя, коли я був ще зовсім малим. Але пам’ять не про обличчя — про відчуття.
Я пам’ятаю, як він завжди приходив із чимось смачненьким, немов у нього був невидимий список того, що робить мене щасливим.
Завжди у костюмі, завжди чисто виголений, із серйозним обличчям і теплими очима.
Він брав мене на руки, і я ніби опинявся у світі, де все просто: добро — це допомога, сила — це праця, а любов — це увага.
Він розповідав мені про щось буденне, але в його оповіді все набувало значення: дорога, дерево, навіть магазин за рогом.
З ним я вчився бачити інакше.
Я пам’ятаю його мовчазну мудрість, терпіння і той спокій, який віяло від нього, як від каменя, що вже бачив бурі, але залишився цілим.
Ех… як мені зараз не вистачає його присутності. Його впевненості. Його фраз.
Навіть просто того, щоб помовчати поруч.
Фінанси.
Маю трохи запасів на чорний день, але, здається, цього завжди мало.
Мене дратує, що мушу платити такі шалені гроші за оренду цієї квартири. Але що вдієш — інших варіантів немає.
Купити щось своє в цих обставинах просто неможливо.
Робота.
Посада — хороша. Гроші платять вчасно.
Але...
Колектив — чужий.
Рутина — з’їдає зсередини.
Немає розвитку.
Я відчуваю: я не на своєму місці.
І все ж... стабільність.
Рахунки.
Страх.
Немає куди йти.
І тільки глибоко всередині постійно щось шепоче: це не твоє. Виходь із зони комфорту.
Я передивився десятки фільмів, сотні мотиваційних роликів.
«Знайди роботу по душі — і більше ніколи не працюватимеш» — кажуть.
Скільки разів чув… Але поки не зустрів такої.
Хобі.
Вихідні?
Лежу. Відходжу від тижня.
Іноді змушую себе читати. Часом виїжджаю за місто.
Граю у футбол. Але… чи можна це назвати хобі?
